Coffee City is located on the banks of Lake Palestine and is an incorporated city governed by a mayor and city council. Residents are provided with police protection and have access to garbage collection. The city is financed by a city sales tax and franchise taxes.

The city area includes a 10-acre park owned by Henderson County and featuring 500 feet of water front, sand beaches for youngsters and picnic and boat launching facilities.

Businesses in the area include Lake Palestine Motor Inn, a haven for fishermen and other tourists coming through the year; a number of package stores, and a convenience store and service station. Also a privately-owned recreational vehicle park is available. Both public and private boat launching facilities are available.
